The Bank of Jamaica has authorised the PobJoy Mint to manufacture a limited number of superb Bi-metallic Proof $100 coins as a tribute to Jamaica’s outstanding performance at the 29th Olympiad of the modern era. The Olympic Games of 2008 were held in Beijing, China and millions of spectators around the world watched the very best of the world’s sportsmen and sportswomen win a deserved place in sporting history.
Jamaican athletes once again displayed excellence in track and field by winning 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals at the same time establishing three World and two Olympic records.
The reverse of this exquisite proof Commemorative Coin, modeled by PobJoy Mint engraver, Barry Stanton, captures the “Victor Ludorum” of the Beijing Games (Gold Medals and World Records in 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay) and IAAF Male Athlete of the Year 2008, the Laureus World Sportsman of Year (2008) the dynamic Usain Bolt, in record breaking form.
The obverse bears the Jamaica Coat of Arms.
